GEEK SPECS ♡

DSLR

So, the first thing i have on my wishlist is a new DSLR!! So i can start taking quality
photographs to finally begin compiling a design portfolio..

The thing is.. I am a total noob when it comes to cameras beyond the cheap digitals you can pick up at kmart. However, with a little research i have settled on the nikon d5100. Labelled as a step up from the d5000 in a design sense, it seems like the way to go. It boasts a smaller, more compact body. Improvements with the lcd screen in the fact that it is 0.3" bigger, and the hinge is on the side - not the bottom. More megapixels, i am led to believe, allow for bigger enlargements without compromising quality. This one has around 16 compared to the d5000 at about 12. (which is great news for the boyfriend!)

Like i said, i am completely unsure if this is the right decision. If anybody has any advice for a beginner wanting to purchase a pro camera, but not fussed about the specs that don't really make sense anyways.. It would be greatly appreciated. I do want this camera to outlast its time in the ever evolving world of technology, at this point i would not really have a reason to upgrade in the future.

If there is a canon i would be better suited to even? Do i want the standard second lens  I know its cheaper to buy in a bundle and don't want to regret it later down the track.. Do i even need a camera this good?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
