TREASURE TROVE

THEMINIMALIST.COM

After my last post for blacklist studio, i was inspired to head on over to the minimalist.com, and funny thing, they actually sell blacklist prints! a good sign right off the bat! Haha so i guess there's a little theme ringing in here... but anyways, here's a post on one of my favourite stores at the moment! :D
"The Minimalist
We source unique, limited edition and designer made product from around the  globe. The Minimalist isn't about buying less but buying better."
that is the description you will see when you navigate to this site, and i think it rings true when you look at their products.
here you will find wares ranging from Eco and minimal to on-trend patterns and striking statement pieces.
i will feature a selection of my favourites and let you head on over and do the rest of the exciting treasure hunting for yourself!

This is my pick of the body products available on the site. I especially love the fresh look of the toothpaste. The Salus body soak would probably be my first buy (if i was with bath) though. Lavender and black salt sounds divine!

Stop the water while using me / Mint toothpaste

Grapefruit and Jasmine / Body Cleanser  Organic lavender and black salt / Body soak
TOP : Stop the water while using me - toothbrush, toothpaste
BOTTOM : Salus - body cleanser, body soak

Tiger says Meow / PrintShapes/ Postcard set

Circles / Print Layered Hearts / Print

The iconic tiger print is unfortunately sold out, but you can buy it here

http://society6.com/rkdesign/TIGER-SAYS-MEOW_Print#1=3

Faceture Vase / White Brass paper weight

the vase is available in a number of pastels such as yellow, pink and turqoise.. also a great matte black! The gold paper weights are so gorgeous. Love the hexagonal prism!

Skull votive / Black or white Porcelain coffee spoon / Black

These skull votives are a steal at only $29! And the perfect alternative to the whole wax skull version which are all the rage right now. Not only are they cheaper, but you can actually light them and they will never melt away! Superb value for money :D
The perfect scoop with style. I tend to drink a lot of loose leaf tea, and have been on the hunt for a great scoop for a while now, i may have found 'the one'.

Ish 03 mint / Tea Towel

The minamalist.com have a great range of colour co-ordinating tea--towels, collect every one and you have a. aesthetically pleasing display with a double use!

Bali Nights / Peach / Linen throw    Fest Blanket / Black and off white

The focus here is of course on the throw blankets. The first gorgeously dubbed Bali Nights/ Peach, and the  second a great monochromatic, with neon trim, geometric beauty. The fest blanket in black and off white..

Storage sack / Peaches

There are TONS of different designs for these storage baskets! Check them out!

LIGHTING!

Faceture Pendant / White  Chestnut origami pendant / White Plumen bulb

The first matches the vase featured further up, and then, there's that AMAZING origami shade again! this time in the chestnut. I need to get my hands on one of these pronto!
How genius are these light bulbs? I'm astounded somebody hadn't thought to design them like this earlier! I think they'd look great hanging on their own from a single cord as pictured.

Handmade earrings / Various
Last but not least are these gorgeous 'BOXY' earring studs! The hardest part would be choosing which colour to buy first! I think they're just so cute and girly!

Well there you have it. A pick of my favourites from this incredible store! Do yourself a favour and head on over. There are so many more treasures to compliment your home, you won't be disappointed!

GEEK SPECS ♡

DSLR

So, the first thing i have on my wishlist is a new DSLR!! So i can start taking quality
photographs to finally begin compiling a design portfolio..

The thing is.. I am a total noob when it comes to cameras beyond the cheap digitals you can pick up at kmart. However, with a little research i have settled on the nikon d5100. Labelled as a step up from the d5000 in a design sense, it seems like the way to go. It boasts a smaller, more compact body. Improvements with the lcd screen in the fact that it is 0.3" bigger, and the hinge is on the side - not the bottom. More megapixels, i am led to believe, allow for bigger enlargements without compromising quality. This one has around 16 compared to the d5000 at about 12. (which is great news for the boyfriend!)

Like i said, i am completely unsure if this is the right decision. If anybody has any advice for a beginner wanting to purchase a pro camera, but not fussed about the specs that don't really make sense anyways.. It would be greatly appreciated. I do want this camera to outlast its time in the ever evolving world of technology, at this point i would not really have a reason to upgrade in the future.

If there is a canon i would be better suited to even? Do i want the standard second lens  I know its cheaper to buy in a bundle and don't want to regret it later down the track.. Do i even need a camera this good?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

INSPIRE

Thank you all for your lovely support yesterday. Here’s a cheery bunny with a new leaf on its head. >u< It’s never too late to become happier or healthier or anything. I’ve almost finished responding to the replies (though a few of you don’t have your ask boxes open oh no!) and will be moving on to the inbox asks!

CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT

BLACKLIST STUDIO

Check out this space!

Sydney based graphic-design studio - blacklist, was founded by Nathan and Jaynie Johnson in 2008 and has absolutely flourished since then!

Working with big time labels like One Teaspoon and Somedays Lovin', Quicksilver, Hurley and Globe.. Waves mag and Snowboarding mag just to name a few. (and i mean, JUST A FEW!) They've also done a lot of campaign work promoting Surf, Dive 'n' Ski.

The duo have worked with Universal Music putting their talent to work for the likes of Hillsong, Newsong, Lakyn (The Voice Aus. runner up) and the more recent works of Matt Corby, designing album cover and poster for his upcoming Australian tour  to support the release of his new album, resolution.

Above all though, my favourite line of work is their surf-inspired homewares, which are available for purchase in their online store! <3 this includes items such as art prints, wall-flags, cushions, towels, linen-art and totes.

Check out their latest print which is a collaboration between blacklist and illustrator, Kelly Smith (birdyandme.com.au).. It is hand signed by both artists and numbered, as with all their art, there are only 100 released. (get in quick!)
It is a beautiful fashion-inspired illustration, gold foil stamped with blacklist's iconic typography. eloquently named daydream believer... just beautiful.

A piece i must admit, i am cut to have missed out on is the surf canvas.. i had my eye on it for a while, but here is an image to give you an idea of the iconic blacklist style.

Yep, she's sold unfortunately, but isn't she grand?!
Not to worry though, there are plenty of other items to feast my eyes on, such as these:

This last one you may remember from a room in Real Living magazine...

So i think i'll finish here, but honestly, they really are worth a look if you somehow haven't already heard of this line. I think they are iconic, Australian, on-trend masterpieces, which are bound to wow your guests. I believe that this company truly will be remembered through the history of Australian Art.

CACTUS

an ode to cactus + coconut

an ode to cactus + coconut by coconut-bunny

Safari jewelry
$160 - safariliving.com
How adorable is this sterling silver/enamel cactus-pendant by Victoria Mason? Coined 'bunny-ears', i cant stop drooling over it! You'll be a sure fire hit when you rock this little gem!

Wall art
$6.28 - etsy.com
I love the soft textures of these handmade watercolours. And how can you go wrong at under $10 a print?!! It's ridiculous-ness! But what isn't ridiculous, is the sense of peace and calm they suggest when viewed. These look great grouped together, or will shine as a stand alone piece.

CB2 round plate
$22 - cb2.com
Inject your space with a hint of gold for a sense of grandeur. Double that awesome feeling using this little baby - the lotus flower is an iconic symbol of peace. Take 20 minutes out of your busy day, light the candle, and drift away to fantasy lands within your imagination. Plus, this is one flower you won't have to worry about replacing once it's withered.. and at a nice price to!

Glazed planter / candle
$88 - stevenalan.com
Aaaah.. the Kelly Lamb 'Ever' candle.. This particular range is inspired by the designer's favourite times of the day - Dawn, Dusk and Midnight. The candle's wax is made with 100% coconut wax, which can be WORN AS A SOLID PERFUME! *drools* And the uses don't end there - no sir! Once this candle has evaporated, it is intended to be used as i must say, a DAMN FINE planter! it will be mine, OH. YES. it will, be mine.

Office supply
$10 - etsy.com
A quirky way to personalise your notes and scribbles? Don't mind if i do!

Uashmama Washable Metallic Paper Bag (Gold/Brown) LARGE
$25 - tabletonic.com.au
These are HUGE at the moment... and for good reason! Pronounced WASH-MAMA these are not only fun to say, but are also eco-friendly and so, so versatile. They work as planters, storage (desk, kitchen, bathroom...), grocery bags, lunch bags.. The list truly DOES go on. And let's face it, they're just DAMN trendy! You will find them in a number of different colours, and let me be the first to say, this won't be the last we see of them! I predict new releases, featuring on-trend patterns and colours - can we hear a shout for a pastel line uashmama?! And don't worry about getting these bad boys dirty.. unlike an ACTUAL paper bag.. you can just throw these in with the next washing load - voila! Good as new!

Ceramic Skull Planter - perfect for cactus succulent or air plant
$46 - etsy.com
Next on my purchase list is a skull planter for my brand new pet - OPIE! Part of the inspiration behind the birth of this blog.. OPIE is a rose pincushion cactus, and i suspect, the first of a new obsession... heh <3

Moth origami lampshade autumn green and white
$115 - etsy.com
This item ranks second on my favourites list for this collab. I think ill go in more detail in a seperate post - I'll just say that these WILL (if not already) be ICONIC in design. Origami is majorly trending right now. Whether you've jumped on board or not, there's no denying that these shades are just crazy good.

Coral Cactus Live Plant Necklace. Variety by WearItMiniPlants
$9.41 - etsy.com
OK, THIS IS HANDS-DOWN MY FAVOURITE ITEM FEATURED HERE.
This... Is a living plant.. In a necklace.. That you can wear.
COMMMME ONNNNN!! I mean, shut. the front. door.
And no, its not just any plant, it's a freakin' cactus!
Oh, how i praise you Etsy! This is a $10 version of a (not as great), exact item on modcloth, retailing for around $40 i think? And with this Etsy version there are stacks to choose from! With a little description of the species, and how to care for that species, so you can eventually re-plant it! Just think, planting something that's travelled all over with you! Aaah the memories <3
The dearer version has only one mass produced type - boring.
Houston, we have a ... uhh, winner :D

Alpaca
$30 - safariliving.com
YOU, little alpaca buddy, are welcome on my desk anytime! ^.^

Golden Barrel Cactus Kit
$8.92 etsy.com
What a GREAT housewarming gift! Yes, Etsy i return to you again with high hopes, and you do not disappoint! This is a great, low-maintenance, injection of lush, plant-life to your favourite friend'S day, all wrapped up in a cute, eco-friendly box! whats not to like?!
